TikTok Music is over. But elsewhere, TikTok is making some interesting music-related moves…

TikTok Music will cease operations on November 28, 2024, in five regions, as TikTok shifts focus to its "Add To Music App" feature, directing users to third-party services like Spotify. Despite the closure, TikTok is actively expanding its music strategy, recently hiring for a new Global Music Content Strategy & Investments lead and recruiting for about 100 music-related roles. Additionally, TikTok has developed a "Music Factory" tool within its Business Creative Center that can generate music based on video style and mood. While concerns about AI-generated music affecting traditional rights holders persist, TikTok has recently secured a licensing deal with Universal Music Group to collaborate on protecting artist rights in the AI landscape.
