Spotify launches Free tier in South Korea
Spotify has launched its ad-supported "Free" tier in South Korea after operating without it since February 2021. This milestone is significant for advertisers looking to reach the country's large, young audience. In Q2 2024, Spotify reported €456 million in global ad revenues, with 393 million ad-supported monthly active users. The South Korean market, with over 50 million internet users, presents a substantial opportunity for Spotify to convert free users into paying subscribers. Artists in South Korea have seen over 5.8 billion monthly streams, reflecting a 70% growth since Spotify's launch. Gautam Talwar, Spotify's General Manager for Asia Pacific, emphasized the potential benefits for consumers and artists alike.
